Ideas and Inspiration
Evolving landscapes, the presence of a place and the tenacity of nature are some of the recurrent themes that often inform my work. From stark and striking, rugged geological features such as the North-West Highlands of Scotland, North Yorkshire’s Jurassic Coast and the great Whin Sill to abandoned industrial sites, particularly around my localities of Northumberland and Weardale, I am interested how weather, time and nature (including humans) mark, change and shape the land. In the work I create and in my approach I seek to be grounded, present and mindful, inviting the viewer to look more closely, to feel an earthy connection and perhaps to experience a small moment of quiet contemplation amidst the hurly-burly.
